DEVELOPMENT OF SCOUTING IN WESTERN SERBIA

Project objectives

  • Spreading of the scouts movement in West Serbia through reactivating the passives and foundation of the new scouts groups in municipalities of the Zlatibor district.
  • Spreading multiethnicity among the scouts group.
  • Protection of the young from bad influences in the environment in which they live, and their education according to the mission and vision of the Scout Association of Serbia and World Scout Movement.

Project description

The purpose of the project is developing Scoiting in the Zlatibor district. In this region, consisting of 10 municipalities (Bajina Basta, Uzice, Pozega, Arilje, Kosjeric,Nova Varos, Priboj, Prijepolje, Sjenica, Cajetina) in 2 municipalities (Bajina Basta, Prijepolje) there are groups that are working and are registered in SIS, while 2 municipalities (Nova Varos, Arilje) were active until 2010. In the administrative center in the region of Uzice there was a group and was activlly working until the 80’, and in 5 municipalities (Priboj, Sjenica, Cajetina, Kosjeric, Pozega) there was never a scout organization.

It is significant to point out that municipalities (Prijepolje, Nova Varos, Sjenica, Priboj) are multiethnic with most of Muslim population. The gathering of young people around the Scout Organization and their education in the spirit of Scouting, would lead to better understanding and overcoming ethnic differences in such environments. The project includes two stages, reactivating squads in areas where they once worked actively ( Arilje,Nova Varoš i Užice) and the establishment squads in areas where they never had squads (Priboj.Sjenica,Čajetina.Kosjerič i Požega ). Reactivating squads in areas where they were once actively sought to support and help from the formerly active members who are set to remember the beautiful days scouting days. And in areas where there are not troops, they would ask for help in education institutions.

Beginning of the project is planned for 2018. The project consists of phases:

  1. 1. Establishing the project team made of the former members of older scouts groups in the Zlatibor district (Prijepolje and Bajina Basta)
  2. 2. Introduction school administration of Zlatibor distric to scout movement
  3. 3. Contacting potential holders of activity to reactivate groups in areas where there were once troops. For this part member of currently active groups will be reinsposible (Bajina Basta and Prijepolje).
  4. 4. Contacting regional educational institutions, with the reflection of the meeting and getting to know the intentions and easier passes Municipal educational institutions.
  5. 5. circular letter the Municipal youth offices to schedule a meeting for the presentation of the work scouting organizations. Agreement and the determination of the date of the workshop propaganda future members of troops.
  6. 6. Visiting the the cities where have not been organizations and the Office for Youth at maintaining a propaganda workshop with the division of of advertising material in order to introduce young people to the tradition and spirit of scouting. Identifying potential educational staff (teachers) who would be the bearer of activities in their community and among young future leaders of the organization. At this stage Participation 24 representatives of educators (teacher) to 2 squads of the active member (Bajina Bašta i Prijepolje) and 2 Representative Scout Association of Serbia.
  7. 7. Presentation of the local and regional media with propaganda films, jingles about Scouting.
  8. 8. Organize a one-day seminar for representatives of the Office for Youth educational staff (teachers) with a detailed knowledge of the scouting organization, mission and vision of the Scout Movement and the steps on the establishment and registration of reconnaissance units. At this stage participate as representatives of registered squads Zlatibor district and representatives of the Scouts Association of Serbia.
  9. 9. Organizing a weekend camp-seminar (Friday-Sunday) in the scout center „ZAOVINE“ (WWW.ZAOVINE.ORG) for future members and leaders of the organization with the introduction of the mission and vision of the Scout Movement, objectives and purpose scouting, scout skills and opportunities that scouting offers, how to animate future members. In this phase involved 16 selected members of the future squad, squads 6 registered representatives Zlatibor district and 5 representatives of the Scouts Association of Serbia
  10. 10. Assistance in the organizing promotional activities of future units.
  11. 11. The active support of the establishment and further development of reconnaissance squads in the municipalities covered by this project.
  12. 12. Monitoring of management skills of the organization

Other relevant information about the project

ZLATIBORSKI district is located in the western part of the Republic of Serbia and covers an area of 6142 km² and thus makes the the largest district in Serbia, has a total population of 304,929 (Census 2011) and make it 10 municipalities, mostly residents in six municipalities makes the Serbian and in 4 municipalities makes the Muslim. Planisnki Hilly and place with outstanding natural beauty (national parks, nature reserves, protected areas …) and an ideal environment for all true lovers of unspoiled nature.

In the area of Zlatibor district works 72 schools (primary and secondary), which attended nearly 12,000 students,  poor materially opportunities and a small number of out of school activities. Present the a scouting organization with the aim to become active in establishment of units in their communities.

Multi-ethnic environment with a lot of young people who do not have some extracurricular activities other than sports. After completing primary education young people are leaving school to larger centers where they continue their education. The establishment and reactivation of young squads have had more opportunities for after-school activities, and going to higher school centers would have the opportunity to engage in groups in these areas. Kragujevac, Nis, Belgrade, Novi Sad … and group in these areas to strengthen, National scout organization – Scout Association of Serbia would receive both on mass and capacity building organization.

With this project we want to offer young people healthy – useful outside of school activity to get involved in all aspects of the present and of their efforts in setting up and developing activities.
