The Beginning of SG Equinox – A Story of Growth and Impact
Project Description
In September 2018, in the picturesque village of Trsino near the city of Vinica, a significant moment in the scouting history of North Macedonia took place. With the support of the European Scout Foundation (ESF) and the Scout Association of Macedonia, the first scout camp of SG Equinox – Stip was organized. Until then, scouting had not existed in Stip, but a group of ambitious young people decided to change that and become part of the world’s largest youth movement.

Project Objectives
With symbolic but crucial support from ESF, which provided €3,200 in funding for the project, this three-day camp was more than just an event—it was the foundation of a thriving scout group that continues to grow today. The camp served as both a recruitment initiative and the official launch of SG Equinox – Stip. Thanks to the support received, the group was able to organize three promotional events in primary schools, secure essential resources such as food and transportation, and provide materials for camp activities. Additionally, it was through this support that SG Equinox received its very first scout scarves, marking the beginning of a proud scouting tradition in Stip.
Today, SG Equinox – Stip has grown into a dynamic scout group with more than 70 active members across six patrols. Over the years, the organization has positively influenced more than 400 children and young people, leaving a lasting educational impact on the community. The initial support from the European Scout Foundation was instrumental in this journey, not only enabling the group’s establishment but also contributing to its capacity-building and long-term sustainability. It serves as a testament to how even small gestures of support in scouting can lead to significant changes, both locally and nationally.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey is seeing how the first participants of that inaugural camp remain active members to this day. Seven years later, they continue to grow, develop their skills, and pass on their knowledge to younger generations, ensuring the continuity of scouting values and traditions.
